The President presides at all meetings, exercises supervision over the affairs of the Chapter, acts as chairperson of the Executive Committee, and serves as an ex-officio member of all committees.
PAST PRESIDENT: Jeffrey S. Kline, PhD, ABPP
The Past-President serves as a member of the Executive Committee, and performs other duties as determined by the Executive Committee.
PRESIDENT ELECT: Enna Taylor, PsyD
The President-Elect assumes the duties of the President in the absence of the latter, serves as a member ex-officio of all committees, and performs other duties as determined by the Executive Committee. Following a two-year term in the office, the President Elect automatically succeeds to the Presidency.
SECRETARY: Jan Fisher, PhD
The Secretary keeps minutes of all SMCPA meetings and the Executive Committee. The minutes are an accurate and official record of all business transacted.
TREASURER: Sundance Friedrich, PhD
The Treasurer is the custodian of all funds. A complete statement of all financial transactions is recorded and the Treasurer oversees the process of developing a yearly budget for the Association. The Treasurer collects monies, dispenses money to vendors, submits tax documentation to CPA.
CPA LIAISON: Rubye Cervelli, PhD
The SMCPA representative to CPA is a board member of CPA and a voting member of the SMCPA Executive Committee. This Chapter representative is elected for a three-year term according to CPA By Laws.
MEMBERS AT LARGE: Steven R. Tulkin, PhD Neil Hersh, PhD Akira Olsen, PsyD
Members at Large perform duties as determined by the Executive Committee.
CONTINUING EDUCATION: Reina Remigio, PhD Neil Hersh, PhD Steve Tulkin, PhD
CE Chair identifies topics of interest and relevance to membership, plans and executes CE events, partners with neighboring chapters to provide continuing education events,and coordinates with CPA to provide CE credits to the membership.

The primary goal of the CLASP Program is to assist psychologists in reaching out for support anywhere along the continuum from wellness to crisis. The CLASP Chair identifies opportunities to encourage and enhance self-care in ways that can significantly contribute to the well being of the membership. Activities may include consultation groups, Book Club, Film Club, mentor programs, and workshops on self-care, burn out, or wellness for psychologists.
DIVERSITY: Akira Olsen, PsyD
Diversity Liaison need not be from an under-represented community. The liaison should be an individual interested in diversity-related issues within the profession. Division VII focuses on clinical issues relevant to cultural and racial/ethnic diversity, the LGBT community, gender, disabilities and social issues. A primary aim is to decrease the gap in mental health disparities in the state of California by increasing the cultural competence of CPA members.
Potential activities for the designated Diversity Liaison aimed at representing and facilitating Division VII initiatives:
DISASTER RESPONSE: Enna Taylor, PsyD
The Chair works closely with the American Red Cross (ARC) or other similar agencies. Once a year there is a mandatory meeting of the statewide chairs. The DR chair organizes the local response to a disaster using a grassroots approach. The chair coordinates members who have become an American Red Cross Mental Health professional. Members need to complete the “Foundations in Disaster Mental Health” one-day training, offered by the local American Red Cross. DRN members when they respond to disasters do not provide on-site therapy. They use their training and professional judgment to help people employ their own coping skills and resources to deal with extremely stressful and often tragic circumstance. They might respond to fires, explosions,floods, earthquakes, plane crashes, etc. They might also be asked to provide longer-term therapy. A DRN member may: teach courses on disaster mental health,serve on the ARC committees to better prepare for future disasters and educate the public and media about common reactions to trauma.
ETHICS: Jeffrey S. Kline, PhD, ABPP
The Ethics Chair will direct complaints regarding professional misconduct to the California Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association, or the State Board of Psychology, as deemed appropriate. In rare cases when it is deemed necessary for investigations to be conducted at the local level, this will be done in accordance with guidelines provided by CPA. The Ethics Chair will also educate and provide information to psychologists and the public.

The Local Advocacy Network Representative (formerly GAC) represents our interests in the legislative world and building relationships with legislators. Through its liaison with the California Psychological Association (CPA), this committee monitors state legislative issues relating to the practice of psychology and to public mental health interests. The Representative has a vital role in the success of CPA’s lobbying effort in Sacramento.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Respond to requests for grassroots action in a timely fashion. Use of chapter, division, and GAC listservs is encouraged
- Provide feedback on grassroots efforts to the CPA advocacy staff, also in a timely fashion
- Provide feedback to GAC Chair and CPA Staff about legislative ideas/changes in the law
- Maintain a grassroots network of psychologists in each assigned legislative district
- Update psychologists in the chapter or division on the status of current legislative initiatives
- Attend CPA’s Leadership and Advocacy Day in Sacramento each year and participate in annual GAC meetings
- Recognize legislators from your area who support CPA-sponsored or supported legislation (honor with awards, article/picture in chapter or division newsletter, etc.)
- Honor grassroots volunteers from the chapter or division who show initiative and leadership in state advocacy
